Field Work Project (Standard Level)

    To what extent is development in HCMC impacting its informal economy?

Introduction

In Ho Chi Minh City, where urbanization and globalization are constantly taking place, many multinational companies have adapted to the changes and progress in developments. As Vietnam is rapidly developing, many informal sectors and self-employed workers are being affected. However, we do not understand well how Vietnam’s development is impacting its informal economy since opportunities to confront these changes are limited. However, this fieldwork project is conducted in local areas where we could hear realistic responses about the transition from various people, hence it is worthwhile investigating as IB geography students.

This investigation is related to optional theme G Urban Environment; specifically focused on Urban land use and Informal economies. Informal economy refers to economic activities that are neither monitored nor taxed by government and no specific qualifications are required.
