To what extent is the knowledge we produce determined by the methodologies we use?
Discuss with reference to history and one other area of knowledge.

With the advancement of mankind, the range of knowledge in modern days has widened. The methodology to obtain this knowledge has expanded as well. The diversified definition allows different interpretations of methodology, and in history it can be understood as the selectivity of historical evidence and the assessment of their trustworthiness. Though the
trustworthiness may depend on the selection process of the historical evidence, the actual production of knowledge is due to the cultural bias present within the historians. Similarly in art, methodology can be defined as the conscious use of techniques by artists. Although methodology has transformed the entire process of creating art, ultimately it is the intuition that artists and audiences rely on when creating and assessing artworks. In this sense, in both areas of knowledge, knowledge production is hardly determined by the methodologies used,rather it is formulated by the cultural bias and intuition of the people.

As in Winston Churchill’s quote “History is written by the victors,” historical knowledge is greatly dependent on people and their intentions. As all humans are raised and live within a
society, these societies are the ones to shape the culture and influence the ideals of an individual. Even the historians who ought to be objective are exposed to cultural bias, making it difficult for them to maintain disinterestedness when interpreting historical evidence. Thus, independent of the historical trustworthiness, cultural bias plays a significant role in knowledge production over methodology in obtaining historical evidence…
