Introduction

Caffeine consumption is increasing every year. Approximately 90% of adults report caffeine average intake of 227mg. The main sources of caffeine intake are coffee, cola drinks
and tea. The European Food Safety Authority established the safe level of caffeine consumption in the population is 400mg per day. The pregnant women should not go over 200mg caffeine per day and for children and adolescent (Caffeine).
Since Caffeine looks like adenosine, it binds to the adenosine receptor. This inhibits the adenosine which promotes sleep. Hormones released by caffeine makes the adrenal glands to produce adrenaline. Adrenaline causes the muscles to tighten up, faster heartbeat, higher blood pressure, release sugar into the bloodstream for extra energy and others.
Due to caffeine in energy drinks like Red bull, it inhibits sleep and increases arousal by inhibiting the binding of adenosine (Mandal). My older brother told me that he once drank three Red bull cans a day during the exam period, so that he would be awake to study…
