1. Research Question:
How does the concentration of Na2SO4 at (0.0 M, 0.2 M, 0.4 M, 0.6M, and 0.8 M) affect the amount of dissolved O2 in the Yunhe River measured using the Winkler’s method?
Right across the street from my school campus lies a river called Yunhe River where the locals go fishing very often. When I peered out the window of the school bus every morning and afternoon, I was constantly reminded of just how much this small river is a big part of our community. There has been a significant shift in the amount of rainfall in my city since the start of spring this year. This has been a great concern of mine ever since I observed the color of the Yunhe River become darker. Furthermore, when the number of people fishing decreased as the weather changed, I became increasingly concerned about life beneath the water. This also reminded me of an interesting article I read recently, which indicated that the salt concentration in rain might induce a reduction of O2 in pond water, jeopardizing the lives of marine creatures (United States Environmental Protection Agency). Also due to the increase in acid deposition in China nationwide, the increasing amount of H+ ions and other sulfur containing content increased in water. Due to the presence of these ions formed the oxygen concentration of river water will be affected. Hence, I developed an urge to spread awareness of the environment of living things beneath the Yunhe River from the rising amount of rainfall, leading me to the research question: “How does the concentration of Na2SO4 at (0.0 M, 0.2 M, 0.4 M, 0.6M, and 0.8 M) affect the amount of dissolved O2 in the Yunhe River measured using the Winkler’s method?
