Voltaic cells are electrochemical cells that use a redox reaction to produce electrical energy.1 They can be easily found in our daily life, such as batteries inside mobile phones or laptops, as wells as electric cars nowadays. Batteries can generate electrical energy, due to potential differences between the two electrodes and electrolytes inside the battery. As batteries are made of voltaic cells the aim is to first, making my own voltaic cell which I’m extremely excited and second, to investigate whether the change in concentration of one of the electrolytes, copper (II)sulfate, affectsthe electromotive force produced. The cell contains cathode and an anode which are submerged into solutions which contain cations and anions of the respective electrode metals. In this investigation I will be setting up a voltaic cell, consisting of a sodium salt bridge (NaNO3), and a fixed electrolyte of zinc sulfate solution. In this experiment, copper will undergo reduction as it is less reactive than zinc, meaning that the copper ions in the electrolyte will start to form on the copper electrode.
