Plastic bottles have accompanied me throughout my entire life. Any time I am dehydrated or in need of fluid, I would go to a convenience store and buy drinks. One interesting observation I have made about drinks is that it is always packaged in either cans made of metal or bottles made of plastic. In my IB Geography course, I learned the significance of risks that global climate change poses to our world. It would raise the Earth’s temperature causing many animal species to go extinct and abolish many people’s homes. Personally, living on the southwestern coast of Canada, many of the neighbouring cities are at high risks of fatal damage from climate change. Cities such as Delta and Richmond, located in British Columbia, Canada, are only few meters above the sea level. This means that even the slightest rise in sea level due to climate change could flood the entire cities. To fight this, many corporates and governments are putting in regulations to reduce climate change. Furthermore, plastics are one of the most non-eco-friendly substances as harmful gases are releases in the production, intensifying the warming of earth. Therefore, I found that despite the risks of using plastic, its common and consistent use in bottles was ironic.
