본 문서는 2020년 졸업할 때 제출한 저의 Math Extended Essay (EE) 입니다.

EE과목을 Math HL 하는 분들에게는 모형 (geometry)가 실생활에 (real-life) 어떻게 응용되고 (application) 그의 중요성에 대한 이해도를 높일 수 있는 에세이 입니다. 비슷한 주제가 아니더라도 어떤식으로 수학을 다향한 방향으로 접근하며 설명하고 풀어가는지에 대한 이해도를 높일 수 있는 에세이입니다 (흐름 및 연출 파악에 도움)

주제는 ” Cardioid Curve” 이며

Research Question은: “How are cardioids generated and to what extent its properties help in their application in real life?”

에세이는 총 72 페이지로 구성되어 있으며 49페이지까지가 Conclusion, 그 이후부터는 Works Cited와 Appendix (Work solutions)입니다. 총 – 3432자 입니다.

### Introduction:

Math being my favorite subject, I wanted to do the Extended Essay in the same. As I sat back in my seat thinking for a topic for my Math EE, drinking a cup of coffee in the stressful night, I stared at my coffee which was under the lamp and I found an interesting caustic on the surface of the coffee. The shape it formed was not just two semi-circles side by side but seemingly a big curve that joins these two semi-circles. It looked like a heart. It was unexpected for a cup of coffee to have such a shape on the surface, and I was intrigued by this “Mathematical heart”.

On research, it was identified that the heart-shape formed on the surface of a cup of coffee is known as a Cardioid. Research showed that similar shapes are also present in seeds and anthers of plants. Cardioids can be generated in various ways including reflection, modular arithmetic etc. Thus, this extended essay will address the question, “How are cardioids generated and to what extent its properties help in their application in real life?”…
