본문은 2017년 제출했던 Math HL IA (Exploration)이며 주제는 Fermat’s Little Theorem 과 이를 활용해 RSA Cryptography의 정당성을 증명하는 내용입니다. 점수는 만점을 받았습니다.




It was Sunday morning when I read about North Korea’s cyber-attack and deliberately planned hacking on South Korean banks. Since then, I have revalued the significance of data in our daily lives and at the same time, how important it is to protect those data, especially in today’s society where all the data are stored in a digital-format.

This has eventually led me to Cryptography and among hundreds of cryptography methods, a specific method called RSA totally grabbed my attention. As I delved deeper into the subject of RSA, I found out its close relationship to prime number and especially Fermat’s Little Theorem, which intrigued me to do my Math Exploration on Fermat’s Little Theorem and RSA Cryptography.

In my Math Exploration, in achieving my ultimate goal – ‘To investigate the RSA cryptography and prove its accuracy and efficiency’, different related-areas will be explored in depth. First, I will introduce Prime Number and some of its characteristics that complement RSA technique. Second, I will explore Fermat’s Little Theorem with a proof. Then, I will introduce how Fermat’s Little Theorem can be used to determine a Prime Number…
