“Our brains are belief engines: evolved pattern-recognition machines that connect the dots and create meaning out of the patterns that we think we see in nature. Sometimes A really is connected to B; sometimes it is not (Shermer).” Pattern is a discernible recurring sequence. We have discovered numerous types of patterns in our lives for various purposes: calendar, maps and even the bathroom tiles. This is because humans are adept at finding patterns, indicating that we have a natural tendency to seek for patterns. We live moment to moment and are surrounded by the massive amounts of perceptual information; thus, it would be exhausting to predict the data each moment. Hence, we establish patterns that are repeatedly used to predict what will happen next and to prevent us from encountering the strenuous process again and again.
However, this statement draws attention to whether these patterns actually exist or not. In fact, numerous examples confirm that some of the firmly believed patterns do not exist in reality…
