Free-kick, one of the set pieces in a soccer match, can prove to be a crucial chance for a player to score a goal for his team. When a player commits a foul like harsh tackling outside the penalty box, the opponent team gets a direct free kick on the spot where the foul has been committed. The opponent team players must stay 10 yards (9.15m) away from the ball, until the free kick is shot by a player. The opponent team players almost always form a wall in front of the ball in the hope of blocking the shot from reaching the goal. However, a well-shot free kick can swerve around the wall or pass over the wall, making the wall futile, and score a goal. There are different styles of shooting topspin dip free kick, banana kicks (curling the ball) and knuckleball shots.
