In 2015, the Chinese government implemented the “Social Credit System” aiming to maintain trust within the citizens and prevent crimes such as theft and murder. Chinese citizens are under surveillance 24/7 with their everyday behaviour being monitored by high-tech cameras as seen in the video.
The system is quite simple, and this is how it works. Each citizen starts off with 1000 points. Every time they are caught of attempting or committing any inappropriate behaviour set by the Chinese government, (jaywalking, smoking on the trains, etc.) points will be deducted. However, it is also possible to gain points as there is a reward system where “good” citizens will gain points for their actions…
